Catering for Our Residents

Good food matters, especially in a care home. It’s one of the small things that can make a real difference to someone’s day – a familiar flavour, a favourite dish, a meal shared with company.

At Lola’s House, meals are home cooked, not shipped in or reheated. Before we plan a single menu, we talk to residents about what they actually enjoy eating, and we talk to families about favourite meals, routines and the little things that matter.

Those preferences, along with any dietary needs, are recorded properly, so the kitchen and care team can get it right.

Staff often eat alongside residents at mealtimes, which helps meals feel social and unhurried rather than functional.

Mealtimes at Lola’s House

Mealtimes are planned around choice, comfort and support.

At lunchtime, residents are offered two meal options, with alternatives available where needed. Drinks and snacks are provided throughout the day, so residents stay nourished and hydrated between meals.

For residents who need extra support, staff are there to help in a respectful and unhurried way. Our aim is always a mealtime that feels calm and sociable, with each person getting exactly the support that’s right for them.

Catering for Our Residents

Care home catering should never be one-size-fits-all, which is why we start by asking rather than assuming.

We speak to residents directly about what they like, and to families about favourite meals and habits from home. Likes, dislikes and dietary needs are recorded from the start, so nothing gets missed.

Preferences can also change, especially for residents living with dementia. Our team keeps an eye on this and can offer smaller portions, gentle encouragement to eat and drink well, extra support at mealtimes, or texture-modified meals where needed. The focus is always dignity and comfort, helping each person enjoy food in a way that feels right for them.

Fish and Chips Friday

Fish and chips Friday is a favourite part of the week at Lola’s House.

Residents can enjoy fish and chips from a proper local chip shop – a familiar routine and a small weekly treat. It’s completely optional, and freshly cooked meals are always available for anyone who’d prefer something else, so there’s a choice either way.
