Palliative Care
Lola’s House provides palliative care in Brough, East Yorkshire, with a focus on comfort, dignity and family involvement.
We support residents living with life-limiting conditions, including people who may also be living with dementia. Our approach is calm, sensitive and unhurried, helping each resident feel cared for as an individual, right through to the end.
Choosing palliative care is never an easy decision. Our team is here to talk it through with you.
Who Is Palliative Care For?
Palliative care may be suitable for someone living with a life-limiting condition who needs comfort-focused support in a safe and caring environment.
It can also support people whose needs are changing because of frailty or declining health. For some residents, dementia and palliative needs overlap, and familiar routines, gentle reassurance and calm surroundings become even more important. Palliative care can help people who:
- Need sensitive support with personal care and daily routines
- Would benefit from comfort, reassurance and familiar surroundings
- Need help with meals, drinks or medication as part of their care plan
- Are living with dementia alongside palliative care needs
- Would feel safer with staff nearby day and night
- Need support that involves family, professionals and the care team
If you’re unsure whether palliative care is the right option, our team can talk things through with you.
What’s Included in Palliative Care?

Private En-Suite Room
A single room where residents can be surrounded by familiar, comforting belongings.
Comfort on Their Terms
Good palliative care is about much more than meeting practical needs.
At Lola’s House, we take time to understand each resident’s life story, routines, preferences, communication style and what brings them comfort. This matters especially where palliative care and dementia overlap, where familiar people and a calm approach can make a real difference.
Families are encouraged to share anything that may help us support their loved one well, including favourite meals, personal routines, music, faith needs, important relationships, or any other small details that might bring comfort.
Our aim is simple: care that feels respectful, personal and unhurried, with residents and families supported through every stage.
End of Life Care
When someone is nearing the end of their life, our focus is comfort, dignity and time with the people who matter.
End of life care is part of the palliative support we offer at Lola’s House. It means keeping someone comfortable and settled in a place they already know, surrounded by familiar faces and their own belongings, rather than moving them somewhere unfamiliar at a difficult time.
We work alongside GPs, district nurses and other visiting healthcare professionals so that medical support and pain relief are in place. Our own team looks after the everyday things: gentle personal care, favourite food and drink offered without pressure, and someone nearby at any hour of the day or night.
Families are welcome here whenever they want to be, with no visiting restrictions. We will talk openly with you about what to expect, note any wishes your relative has already shared, and do our best to see that those wishes are respected.
A Safe and Supportive Setting
Lola’s House offers palliative care within a residential home environment, with staff available day and night. The home has an enclosed courtyard and shared spaces where residents can spend time quietly or with others, and bedrooms are single and en-suite, giving privacy while keeping support close by.
We work closely with families and visiting healthcare professionals to support each resident’s needs. We don’t provide nursing care, but we’re always happy to talk with families and professionals about whether someone’s needs can be safely supported here.
Not Sure What Type of Care You Need?
Every family’s situation is different, and there’s no single right time to start this conversation. Whether you’re planning ahead or facing a more immediate need, our team is here to listen and help you understand what support is available.
